FiiO’s expansion into full-sized over-ear headphones has made waves in the audiophile community. From solid American black walnut closed-backs to 350- ohm open-backs and planar magnetic transducers, here is a detailed breakdown to help you match the right model to your music and amplifier setup.
1. FiiO FT1: Closed-Back Wooden Warmth & Isolation
- Acoustic Design: Closed-Back with solid American Black Walnut cups.
- Driver Type: 60mm Large Dynamic Driver with Nano-Wood Fiber composite diaphragm.
- Impedance & Sensitivity: 32Ω / 98dB @ 1kHz.
- Sound Profile: Rich, impactful bass, natural mid-range vocal presence, and exceptional acoustic isolation. Easy to power directly from a phone dongle like the FiiO KA11.
- Best For: Commuting, office environments, and acoustic/vocal music where sound leakage must be prevented.
2. FiiO FT3: High-Impedance Open-Back Spatial Precision
- Acoustic Design: Fully Open-Back with beryllium-plated gasket & DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) diaphragm.
- Impedance & Sensitivity: Available in 350Ω high-impedance (and 32Ω low-impedance edition).
- Sound Profile: Expansive holographic soundstage, precise instrument positioning, and ultra-fast transient attack. The 350Ω variant scales tremendously with dedicated desktop amplifiers like the FiiO K7 or K11 R2R.
- Best For: Critical listening, orchestral recordings, and gaming where pin-point soundstage accuracy is paramount.
3. FiiO FT5: 90mm Planar Magnetic Resolving Purity
- Acoustic Design: Open-Back Planar Magnetic with 6μm ultra-thin diaphragm and 20 neodymium magnets.
- Impedance & Sensitivity: 36Ω / 110dB / Vrms (@1kHz).
- Sound Profile: Effortless micro-detail, laser-fast decay, linear bass extension with zero harmonic distortion, and lush, organic timbre.
- Best For: Audiophile purists seeking reference-grade transparency, complex jazz arrangements, and live acoustic recordings.
